The Prime Minister visits Norway, 6 September 2006

On Wednesday, September 6th, the Prime Minister, José Ramos-Horta, started a three day visit to Norway. On this particular visit, the Timorese Prime Minister will have work meetings with his counterpart, the Norwegian Prime Minister and the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On the first day of the official program of this visit, Prime Minister Ramos-Horta will meet with Norwegian Prime-Minister, Jens Stoltenberg. Prime Minister Ramos-Horta will also have a working lunch with the Minister of Foreign Relations, Jonas Gahr Store. Later in the afternoon, he will have a meeting with the Minister of International Development, Erik Solheim.

The Prime Minister's visit will also include a meeting with the Presidency of the Parliament (Storting's Presidium) and a meeting with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In this visit to Norway, Prime Minister José Ramos-Horta will be accompanied by the Minister of Labor and Community Reinsertion, Arsénio Bano, and a Diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Licínio Branco.

In these meetings, the Prime Minister will work in conjunction with the Norwegian authorities, who have demonstrated continuous help to Timor-Leste, "to ask for more help with the national dialogue program and reinforce the assistance to the level of humanitarian assistance and development."

During the rest of his visit, Prime Minister José Ramos-Horta will participate in various activities in the capacity of a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. These activities will relate to the participation of the North-South Forum of FK Norway ("Fredskorpset" - a Norwegian organization that gives support to development). Prime Minister Ramos-Horta will be the guest of honour at the international advisory council meeting of this organization.

Thursday's program will discuss the questions of the construction of peace and the management of conflicts. Ramos-Horta will give a speech about his own fight, "in the formation of an independent and peaceful Timor-Leste."

On Friday, in addition to a visit to the Nobel Peace Centre and to The Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights, Prime Minister Ramos-Horta will give a speech at the Nobel Peace Institute, joined by two other Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, Rigoberta Menchu and Wangari Maathai, about "being a Nobel Laureate."

The Prime Minister and his delegation left Dili on Monday, September 4th and have a planned return to Timor-Leste of next Monday, September 11th.
