Prime Minister convened the Crisis Management Office , 6
June 2006
This morning, June 6th, the Prime Minister convened the Crisis
Management Office to discuss the implementation, and coordination
among the different Ministries, of the Action Plan agreed at the
Superior Council for Defence and Security. This meeting, headed
by the Prime Minister, had the participation of the Minister of
Defence, State Administration, Plan and Finance, Interior, Employment
and Social Inclusion, Public Works, Transports and Communications,
the Minister of the Council of Ministers and the Secretary of
State for the Council of Ministers. Taur Matan Ruak, the Brigadier
General of the Timorese Army Forces also attended the meeting.
Also during the this morning, the Prime Minister meet the Ambassador
of the Republic of Indonesia in Dili, in order clarify some information
released by some Indonesian media. The Prime Minister never co-implicated
Indonesia on the present crisis in Timor-Leste.
Yesterday, June 5th, the Prime Minister, Mari Alkatiri, held
a meeting, in his Office, with Ian Martin, Special Envoy from
the United Nations Secretary General, together with Tamrat Samuel,
Senior Political Affairs Officer, from the United Nations Asia
Pacific Division. On that meeting, the actual situation of Timor-Leste
was discussed as well as the ways to put back Timor-Leste into
normality. Also was discussed the next United Nations mission
in Timor-Leste and the re-organization of the National Police
(Polícia Nacional de Timor-Leste, PNTL).
Also yesterday morning, the Prime Minister conceded an audience
to the Australian opposition spokesman for foreigner affairs,
Kevin Rudd (Australian Labour Party).
On the afternoon, the Prime Minister met with the United Nations
Special representative of the Secretary General, Sukiro Hasegawa.
Tomorrow, June 7th, at 9:30am, on the Government Palace, the
Prime Minister will preside to the signature ceremony of an agreement
between the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the European
Union. This agreement, of 18 millions euros value, it will be
to support the Rural Development (12 millions euros) and for Capacity
Building (6 millions euros).
At 11:00am, the Australian and the Neo Zealand Defence Ministers
will pay a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister, Mari Alkatiri.
National budget will allocate funds to humanitarian relief
The budget for the 2006/2007 fiscal year (starting July 1st,
2006, to June 30th, 2007) will be review, before submission to
the National Parliament during this month, in order to allocate
funds to humanitarian relief.
These funds will be used for food, health care and to support
the population to return their homes, as well as to rebuild houses
destroyed during the recent events, mainly, in the Capital, Dili.
